We were asked to analyze a blog post and suggest questions for our spring focus groups session. Below is my analysis of Liz Miller's NewTeeVee post "Grammy awards online: Lady Gaga, Live Streaming, and Vevo Oh My!" I recommend that we ask TU students about how their use of social media is changing the way they watch TV.
We are now preparing to run a spring focus group session. As a new member of Proximity media team, I have sent a memo out to discuss the significance of live streaming video. As reported by Liz Shannon Miller, Grammy Awards Online: Lady Gaga's Live Streaming Video of "We're All Fans", and to have TU students help us find the answers to our questions of why broadcast TV is failing.
Live Streaming Video Provides
Last year's Grammy Awards ratings were 10% higher than in 2008, with 23% of the new viewers falling in the desirable 18-34 year old demographic. Smith claims that this increase was a direct result of a campaign to promote the Grammy's to Gen-Y on social media. This year, she notes, CBS and the Grammy awards are going even further. They have devised a campaign which features a collage of YouTube videos where fans offer their own covers of Lady GaGa's "Poker Face."
For Instance, social media has expanded, to promote the Grammys on TV. Apple has applications to download on the iphone, Youtube as come out with an application to watch clips of the Grammys on your cell phone and or computer.
Why is this video important?
To broadcast to the public that real time videos of real fans are being made and are being viewed by the public. To show how many people across the world are falling in love with Lady Gaga's music, and outrageous videos. To engage television viewers across the United States, the Grammys are going to be a huge event. You can't miss out on watching them on CBS - TV.
Questions to ask TU video users After sharing a view on the live video streaming world, here are a couple of questions to ask TU students:
Do you think Live Streaming video will take away from the significance of watching the Grammy's on TV?
How will Live Streaming Videos impact the lives of the younger generations?
